Shaker Colony Schedules Historic Porter Auction
More than 300 items from the Sabbathday Lake Shaker colony will be auctioned next week as a stop gap to fund the 1900 acre settlement. The sale in Porter Maine features museum quality pieces including two Alfred sewing desks by Elder Henry Greene and a rare pine trestle table. Proceeds aid construction of a fireproof library for the colony’s books and manuscripts.
