Eisenhower Presses Tokyo Visit Despite Riots

President Eisenhower continues toward a planned three day trip starting in the Philippines with a scheduled stop in Tokyo despite rioting mobs in the Japanese capital. He praised Alaska’s reception during a refueling at Wake Island and said he would not abandon the trip to Manila or Tokyo to improve global understanding amid anti foreign propaganda. He faces potential danger upon arrival in Tokyo but remains committed to the visit. Hagerty greeted him in Anchorage before the next leg of the journey.

St Louis High Commencement Honors Class of 1960

Crash Trial Opens In Biddeford Court

A 20 year old Beach youth faced charges of reckless homicide this morning before Judge Simon Spill in Biddeford municipal court. Oliver Berthiaume out on bail since the fatal May 25 crash on South Street that killed Ann Braley, 19, of Saco, was alleged to have driven a car left the highway and struck a utility pole. Original manslaughter charges were not pressed on motion by County Atty Marcel R. Viger. supplemental charges of reckless homicide were entered and Berthiaume’s counsel pleaded innocent. John LaPointe Jr., 26, of Old Orchard Beach, the first witness, testified about pre crash activity and giving Miss Braley a ride.

Drowning Victim Identified Near Old Orchard Beach Pier

The body of 42 year old Mrs. Lucille Marie Cyr of Biddeford was identified by husband Charles Cyr after being found beneath the Old Orchard Beach pier this morning. She had been missing since 9 p.m. last night. The discovery was made by three locals near the pier as officers recovered her belongings including a wedding ring and wrist watch.
