Back-To-Earthers Seek Self-Sufficiency In Vermont And Beyond
In Plainfield Vermont and across the United States the back-to-the-land movement draws college town transplants and others seeking self-sufficiency. Devon Lights and Eliot Coleman describe building a farm life near Plainfield, growing food, raising animals, and using thrift and barter, while maintaining a 365 day work ethic. They aim to produce most needs with minimal cash and resist external systems, even as marital strains and limited farming know-how test such idyllic ideals.
