Velma Gibbs, a 60 year old veteran of 39 years at the C. K. Burns School in Saco, will retire from Room 7 next week. Beginning at Bates College she taught ninth grade and history, earning praise for teaching with personal style, not by the book. She recalls low pay, several superintendents, and pupils who remember her as a lasting authority. Gibbs plans to relocate to Merrimac, Massachusetts to live with her parents and spend October visiting relatives.
