Expansion Seen by Saco-Lowell Plant Official
David Spear vice president of the New England division of Saco-Lowell Shops says the Edwards plant in Saco will likely expand both employment and production as new products are added to the manufacturing line. A study continues on capabilities for new lines while the firm reports rising sales from 21 million in 1953 to 112 million last year. The Edwards plant now makes automotive parts for Ford, Willys Jeep, and Eaton, plus ordnance under government contract. An aim is to add consumer automotive lines beyond current ordnance work. Spear has been with Maremont 21 years, previously leading the Harvey plant.
