D-Day 25 Years On Sainte-Mere-Eglise Remembrance

A commemorative report recalls D-Day's dawn 25 years ago from Sainte-Mère-Église. Allied forces including Americans British Canadians and Free French liberated the town with paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne and remembrance ceremonies honoring Omar Bradley James Gavin and other leaders. Casualties for the first 24 hours numbered about 6,603 American, 3,500 to 4,000 British and Canadian. ceremonies mark the end of a four-year Nazi grip and the opening of Europe’s liberation.

Biddeford School Board Lowers Wage Offer For Teachers

Biddeford School Board presents a two step salary plan to the Biddeford Teachers Association at a noon meeting in Biddeford High School. The first step sets base pay from 5800 to 8700 for new to ten year teachers starting Sept 1 with a second step in April 1970 raising base to 6000 9000 depending on experience. The board hopes agreement on basic salary will unlock the rest of the contract after many private and public sessions.
