Maine Senate votes to liberalize abortion laws
The Maine Senate approved an abortion liberalization 20 to 12, overriding the Judiciary Committee’s 6-4 recommendation. The bill would permit abortions to save a mother’s life or in cases of rape or incest, or if the mother’s health is at risk or the child would be born with serious disabilities, with a requirement of maternal consent and a three-doctor hospital board approval. The House also advanced a “double bottoms” trucking bill, sending it back to the Senate after a close vote.
