Legislature mulls funds for indigent medical care program
Major bill to finance a federal aid medical care program would boost state payments to hospitals and nursing homes for indigent care. Other spending bills include education TV and railroad tax relief. Gov Reed backs sales tax rise to 3.5 percent and higher liquor markups despite GOP resistance. Democrats propose $2 million revenue boost, $5 million surplus funds, bond for buildings, and cigarette and liquor tax hikes. This week marks day 73 of the 1961 session with a long way to 91 days.
