Area Gas Stations Still Filling Tanks

Gas stations within ten miles of Biddeford report easing rationing as Maine expects 92 percent of needs for June. Most stations say May allotments covered the month, with limited hours still common. Two OOB fires injure two, blaze at Imperial Street

Friday night in Old Orchard Beach two blazes wounded two firefighters. Donald Simard, burned on both arms, was taken to Webber Hospital in satisfactory condition. Charles Granger suffered a wrist slash but was released after treatment. The Irving Street fire at 6:42 p.m. gutted the downstairs of the two story Gilparis house at 5 Imperial Street, damaging the upper floor and a 1974 Cadillac. A poodle perished, and investigators planned to probe the cause with State Fire Inspector Lawrence Dolby.

Fire damages two-story building. firefighters investigate origin

Two Simard was found downstairs attempting to extinguish the fire as flames gutted the downstairs and upper sections suffered heat smoke and water damage. More than 30 firefighters responded and Inspector Dolby will investigate the cause.

Public schools admit trainable mentally handicapped students

Donna Danis, once rejected for low I Q, became one of the first trainable mentally handicapped students in Biddeford Saco and Old Orchard Beach. She now attends Regional Vocational School in Biddeford with four others, mingling with normal peers and gaining new social skills. Her mother notes better behavior at home, greater acceptance, and her daughter's apparent accelerated progress as integration continues.

Debrah Doane says no discrimination aboard Maine training ship

Deborah Doane, 24, the first woman cadet from Maine Maritime Academy, travels Helsinki on the State of Maine training cruise with 262 cadets aboard. She says she faces no discrimination as she does the same duties as the men and plans to graduate in April 1976 and later sail on freighters or run a sailing school. The ship visits Leningrad, Antwerp, before Castine.
