House Judiciary Democrats rewrote proposed impeachment articles to sharpen charges against President Nixon. The closed caucus delayed the public session as debates aimed to finalize a resolution to impeach and put Nixon on trial in the Senate.
Kennebunkport tree wardens Ralph Smith Carter Harris and Jim LeFurgy lead a program to save Elm trees from Dutch elm disease in York County. Working with Dr. Richard Campana of the University of Maine they inject infected trees with benomyl via spigots and tubing to reach the cambium, aiming to restore nourishment flows. The main dispute centered on planning board vs. corridor commission powers under state law, with the corridor commission asserting authority to designate districts if the planning board misses deadlines. May 30 public meeting yielded little opposition, while the corridor bill moves toward setting official district boundaries if the planning board fails to act.
