Old Orchard Beach approves teacher pay raise and benefits

A new contract increases base pay for bachelor degree holders by 500 to 7350 in 1975 76 with 11 year maximums and raises to 7850 in 1975 76 plus higher master pay up to 11945 75. The plan adds 192 steps first year and 11 steps by 1975 with a 5 percent per step increase. Longevity rises to 20 years, and resignations and coaching changes follow the signing.

Saco Accepts Scontras Contract

The Saco City Council voted 5 to 1 to approve a contract with developer Nicholas Scontras to connect Wildwood housing to city sewerage at his expense. Scontras will build a pumping station, lay a six inch force main along Wildwood Drive to Ferry Road, link to an abandoned eight inch water main, and connect to the city gravity main. He will cover pumping and sewer maintenance costs. The city retains rights to the abandoned pipe and will take over once the pumping station serves Ferry Road residents. A June 4 vote had approved a different version. Mayor Braley criticized the final document as discriminatory and a potential burden on the city treasury.

Clerides Named Cyprus President As Turmoil Persists

Steam Car To Trolley Finds Home At Seashore Museum

Kennebunkport welcomed an MBTA streamlined street car, number 3019, saved from scrapping after an 88 mile haul from Boston. Built in 1941 by Pullman Standard, the car was rescued by Seashore Trolley Museum volunteers and will operate for educational tours in Maine. Boston’s MBTA has phased out the model, with about 290 in service before the retirement.
