Man Killed Second Day On New Job
WOODLAND Cornelius H Mabey 50 of Southington Conn died in a Machias hospital two hours after being struck on the head by a falling stick at St. Croix Paper. A medical examiner ruled death from shock due to a skull fracture. Mabey had started work the previous day while assisting in pouring a concrete foundation when the heavy stick fell from an overhead conveyor. He had spent 19 years at the Pratt & Whitney plant in Southington.

Polaris Missiles Launched From Sub Hit Target Ocean Area
Admiral Raborn announced two successful Polaris missile firings from the submarine George Washington off Cape Canaveral. The 28 foot missiles launched from 90 feet underwater reached a 15 mile second stage and delivered 1100 mile range to a target area north of Puerto Rico.
