US, British and Soviet negotiators reopened the Mos cow conference for a fourth session to refine a partial nuclear test ban treaty. Gromyko arranged a ceremony for East German foreign minister Lothar Boltz, while Harriman stressed no contact with East Germans. A summit possibility looms if progress continues.
Washington AP reports a total solar eclipse will draw a massive scientific audience and rocket experiments to study space travel hazards, weather forecasting, and communications. The path spans six miles across Alaska, Canada, and Maine with naked-eye viewing allowed only there.
Augusta AP Gov Reed outlined a potential 250000 fishway project on the St. Croix River to restore Atlantic Salmon runs and boost border area communities. The plan would use state federal and private funds with eventual Canadian involvement and cites two dams blocking fish passage at Woodland and Kellyland.
The Saco Taxpayers Protective Association met in GAR Hall last night and voted against the proposed 2.3 million sewage treatment plant and sewer line if funded by the general tax levy.
