Turkish forces deploy to provoke a swift response after the coup in Cyprus, as the government orders measures to restore order and safeguard regional stability. The Associated Press reports on the mobilization and international reactions amid the tense crisis.
Gibbs Refinery plans to supply the Sanford refinery with water from Estes Lake near the Sanford Alfred Kennebunk border. The originally proposed route via the Saco River and KK and W District facilities have been dropped in favor of Estes Lake as the source, with a 250000 barrel per day refinery and new water works planned.
Gibbs officials confirm plans for a third pipeline linking the proposed ford to the Portland area. CMP will buy almost all of a refinery’s fuel oil and a $3 million treatment plant is proposed to address Estes Lake pollution. Astroline Petroleum, Gibbs subsidiary, buys York Corp holdings tied to the refinery project, with the option to proceed only if permits are won.

The suit also claims a 25 percent performance bond was not posted and SMRPC review was not provided. FOIL officials say more study may change public opinion, while contending officials may be willing to let the refinery proceed.
In Kennebunk a proposal to extend Sweetser Children's Home by building a half way house on Storer Street drew strong arguments at a crowded hearing. The York County project would house six high school age youths with foster parents, contingent on a granted variance, and would be the first in a planned series of extensions. Neighbors split on the plan as the Appeals Board requested further study on zoning legality and potential variance.

The six to eight week review, costing up to 8000 dollars, aims to produce recommendations to curb river contamination while DEP pending enforcement.
