Chappaquiddick case lingers in memory and politics

Kennedy and Miss Kopechne did not intend to return to Edgartown and Kennedy was driving fast when the car went over the bridge. A grand jury offered no conclusions, and no further court action followed. District Attorney Edmund Dinis said the case affected his re election prospects, while Police Chief Dominic Arena said it changed his life. Hundreds of reporters arrived in Edgartown as the story dominated headlines and broadcasts.

Biddeford Fire Fatality In Smoldering Mattress Blaze

A 29 year old Biddeford woman Jane Plourde died of smoke inhalation in a two story apartment fire at Cutts and Bradbury streets. Fire officials believe a cigarette on a foam mattress pad smoldered for hours before flames. Rescue efforts hampered by heavy smoke. victim pronounced dead on arrival at Webber Hospital. She was fourth fire fatality in Biddeford this year.

Port official held for assault questions in Kennebunkport
