Old Orchard Beach Builds To Serve Tourists
A string of new and expanded businesses shapes Old Orchard Beach’s tourist infrastructure. The Chamber of Commerce Building on First Street costs about 7000 and will host a bus depot and information center. The Holiday Shopping Plaza on Heath Street houses Western Auto and a Bakery-Delicatessen with long hours and year round operation. New motels and eateries including Swiss Colony Motel, Royal Anchor Motel, Sand Piper Motel, Pratt's Restaurant, Janelle's Joseph's By The Sea, and Waverly Motel open or expand with hundreds of units and varying nightly rates. The Palace Fruit Store and related services add retail and laundry. The Recreation Building at Pinehirst Trailer Park features a steel construction with a restaurant and recreation hall. The project list reflects strong Canadian and East Coast patronage and ongoing improvement across the resort.
