Government Threatens To Sue Chicago School Board

The Justice Department notified Chicago Board of Education it may sue under federal desegregation authority. It found faculty assignment and transfer practices deny Negro pupils equal protection, with 215 of 578 schools all white or all Negro and 93 percent of Black teachers in schools with 90 100 percent Black enrollments. The action would be the largest desegregation suit since 1964.

Five Years Since Trooper Black Died In Maine Bank Heist

A Maine state trooper died five years ago when a bank robber fired five shots from a 22 caliber pistol as police closed in. Canoeists Return From Arnold Expedition Trek

Three St. Francis College students completed a 500 mile canoe trip from Cambridge to Quebec City retracing the Arnold expedition route. Leader Dan Ahern and teammates Rick Sucor and Dave Sholey endured rough waters and dehydration, staying in jails and a fire station before arriving in Quebec City. They plan to publish an article for a national magazine with photos captured during the journey.
