First Fishing Shack Appears On Saco River Ice
Ice fishing returns to the Saco River after years of absence. Ralph Dussault of Saco and partner Pete Lamontagne of Biddeford set a shack on the river last week and have caught 10 to 12 fish on their best day, mostly tommy cod and some smelt. They move the shack to find the right bite and invite others to join, noting thick 12 to 14 inch ice in the river center and a renewed interest from local anglers.

Biddeford Man Asks For Pardon
Robert L. Lemieux of Biddeford filed a pardon petition while serving 5 to 10 years in State Prison for manslaughter. Youth Dies in Parked Car in Houston
In Houston a 17 year old Monticello youth, Larry Flewelling, was found dead in a parked automobile. A 13 year old girl, Bernadette Charette of Houston, was hospitalized in shock and listed in fair condition. An autopsy was ordered to determine the cause, with possible carbon monoxide poisoning not yet confirmed. The girl spoke briefly to identify herself.

PORTLAND AP A snow storm is forecast to sweep Maine tonight ending a bitter cold spell. The Weather Bureau expects about two inches of snow in southern Maine and up to four inches in central and northern parts. Temperatures will range in the low 20s, with Presque Isle at minus 20 and Bangor at near freezing elsewhere.

Biddeford Man Witness To Rescue On Ice Cranm ore Trail
Sixteen teenage girls, members of a Lawrence Mass Catholic youth group, were injured on an icy Cranmore Mountain ski trail in North Conway New Hampshire. Rescuers faced 60 mph slides as climbers and ski patrol used spike boats to reach the injured. The most seriously hurt was Carol DiSpirito 16 with pelvic and spinal injuries. Five hospitalized, ten released after treatment.
