Tanker Chester Poling Split Off Cape Ann

A tanker Chester Poling broke in two near Cape Ann Gloucester Massachusetts resulting in the loss of one seaman who jumped from the stern section and another crewman sustained injuries. The injured man was removed from a Coast Guard vessel to the Cape Ann base. The vessel was American registered and seven crew members were aboard.

Lesbian woman ordained Episcopal priest in New York

Marie Barrett, an avowed lesbian, was ordained yesterday as an Episcopal priest at Holy Apostles Church in New York. The 30 year old deacon, pursuing a doctorate in social ethics at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, has served 13 months in California. The ceremony featured Rt. Rev. Paul Moore Jr. and Barrett leaving the church.

Death penalty issue revived in Maine

Maine Republican Stanley Laffin plans to introduce a bill in the 108th Legislature modeled on Florida’s death penalty provisions to cover violent crimes including police murder bombing rape and child murder.
