Biddeford Councilman in Absentia Asked to Quit

Biddeford city councilor William Zuke faced calls to resign after missing six recent meetings. Zuke, 21, said he left for Arizona to work as a waiter, expects to return in April, and noted constituents can reach councilors-at-large. Mayor Dutremble defended him, and no action was taken.

Longley to push line on Maine debt and taxes

Tanker Grand Zenith Crew Search Shifts as Seas Calm

Eight aircraft risk low altitude sweeps over the North Atlantic seeking 38 missing crew from the 642 foot Grand Zenith after a weeklong disappearance. Despite calmer seas, searches cover a vast 150,000 square miles east of Cape Cod, with oil samples tested to link to the tanker cargo of 8.2 million gallons.

Aboard a C130 search plane over the Atlantic the crew failed to find evidence of the missing Panamanian registered tanker Grand Zenith with 8.2 million gallons of oil and a 38-strong Nationalist Chinese crew. The mission, aided by six other aircraft, covered 56,000 square miles off New England as officials warned of a potential long search and oil spill spread via the Gulf Stream.
