New York AP reports 1962 ended with strong auto output totaling 6.94 million cars, up 2.7 percent from 1961, and GM Chrysler led gains. Steel output topped 1961, construction rose to $61.1 billion, with private housing starts at 1.544 million and factory orders and sales hitting records. Longshoremen and newspaper strikes clipped port activity and NYC papers. dividends rose, with 1,086 increases and 1,261 extra declarations, signaling a solid year for investors.

With 24 male and two female residents, the city could gain lease revenue while the state provides support for residents’ clothing and personal items. The plan would involve competitive bids and possible state approval after a Health and Welfare meeting next week.

Three Scarborough still case defendants plan appeals after U S District Court sentences. Samuel Rosencranz 55 of Newton Mass received five years and a $100000 fine. Frank Romano 37 of Providence R I and Anthony J Dipietro 30 of Milford Mass, sentenced to three years and 18 months respectively, were granted stays pending appeals. Other sentences: Joseph Napolitano 28 Portland three years and $5000. Joseph Alimonti 52 Lawrence Mass six months plus terms suspended and probation. Amorello 40 Chelsea Mass 18 months. White 26 Providence and Ricci 35 Portland 18 months suspended and probation. Raid on Scarborough farm last March 24 found a still producing about a thousand gallons weekly for months. Alcohol distributed widely on East Coast.
