Flight Recorder May Explain Details Of Fatal Jumbo Jet Crash
Federal officials say a new flight data recorder will help investigators determine why an Eastern Air Lines TriStar plunged into the Everglades swamp with 176 aboard. The recorder will provide detailed, tenth second data to be correlated with cockpit tapes and tower records for a clearer view of the crash scene west of the Miami airport. Public hearings are planned for March while death toll estimates fluctuate, with 103 dead reported and 15 survivors among the passengers and crew.
