A tropical philodendron in Biddeford's Sandwich Shop window bloomed for a day, a first for the region. Florist Raymond Lord confirms the plant, eight years old, rarely flowers here. it bears mahogany red blooms with yellow centers, then forms a protective shell as they die. The plant was gifted by Arnold Potter of Potter's store, with two more buds expected to ripen much later.

A four year old boy was struck on South Street Biddeford by a Humpty Dumpty Potato Chip truck driven by William T Blanchard of Portland. The child suffered severe head injuries and was taken to Webber hospital in a semi conscious condition. Police and hospital staff worked to identify the boy and locate his parents as the driver assisted authorities.
