Workers Or Workmen? Bill to change term fails in Senate

Special to the Journal Maine lawmaker Rep. Barry Hobbins proposed replacing Workmen's Compensation with Worker's Compensation to reflect a female workforce. The bill passed the House unanimously, but was defeated on the Senate floor amid arguments it was a waste of time. Hobbins called the defeat irrational and noted future changes may be needed after ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. The measure was sent back to the House in non agreement for further action.
