Boyhood Friends Reunited On Ship In Mekong Delta
Two Biddeford natives now serve aboard the USS Benewah APB 35 flagship of the Army Navy Mobile Riverine Force in the Mekong Delta. Lt Cmdr Gerald Saucier USN commands the Benewah while Maj Aldersen Belisle US Army signals the Second Brigade Ninth Infantry. Their reunion traces 18 years after high school as they operate a moving riverine base with five ships supporting search and destroy missions.

Saco River Rock Jetty Work starts in May
Congressman Peter N Kyros says rock jetty at the Saco River mouth will begin in late May with federal funds included for navigation improvements in the 1968 69 budget. Maine's share is 31000 with Biddeford and Saco contributing 15500 each to create two anchorages and a six foot deep basin.

Private Tries To Hijack Airliner In Vietnam War Era Incident
A US Marine private in a leather jacket attempted to hijack a Pan American DC6 at Da Nang with a .45 pistol. After 2 hours of stalemate and a Westmoreland order to use tear gas, the crew disabled the plan and the man, Pfc. William Lee Clark, was arrested by Air Force police.

North Vietnam presses Saigon fight with U S troops at racetrack
U S forces landed at the Saigon racetrack to aid South Vietnamese troops as heavy clashes spread across the northern zone, with 321 Communists and 67 American deaths on Thursday. The battle around Khe Sanh Da Nang Hue continued while 170 Americans were wounded. American units helped flush Viet Cong from Cholon and surrounding areas as the city’s pacification faded.
