Peter A. Gagliardi aged 21, just old enough to vote, is elected to Athol School Committee. He topped a field of three candidates, becoming the town’s youngest government mayor at Harvard.
In 1897 a Biddeford meeting led to the Rebecca Emery Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Miss Cora Belle Bickford served as organizing regent, with charter granted March 20 1897. Rebecca Emery, born 1719 in Berwick, provided the name inspiration. The chapter later expanded to Saco and York County towns, celebrating a Golden Anniversary in 1947 and eyeing a 75th milestone in 1972.
