Saco Council vetoes Doyle as assessor in secret vote

In Saco, the City Council narrowly approved hiring former Mayor Donald C. Doyle for the vacant assessor post, but Mayor Armand J. Mercier vetoed the measure. The 4 to 3 vote favored Doyle over Andrew J. Fournier. Mercier gave no reason for the veto. Budget items discussed included Fire at 110,763 plus 9,499.50. Police at 127,849.
