Saco School Committee Elects Lamb Chairman
Walter R. Lamb Jr was elected chairman of the Saco School Committee for 1959 at a meeting in Saco City Hall. Appointments for the year were made including Dr. Maurice Ross as school physician and Sidney Griffith as director of adult education. A 1959 budget draft was slated for February 17, and a preschool eligibility survey was authorized for April. Tragedy Averted At Jonesboro High School
Jonesboro High School principal Ulmer Davis shielded students from a phosphorus explosion in a science lab. Davis, 58, suffered burns to the face and neck and lost some hair while six pupils received minor burns. Davis had grabbed the container and carried it out when it exploded, the canvas bag absorbing much of the blast.

Kennebunk Man Named To Federal Aviation Post
Carroll E. Philbrick of Kennebunk, connected to Portland, has been appointed by the Federal Aviation Agency as flight inspector and airworthiness officer. He begins duties January 26 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, bringing 15 years of flight instruction and service with the Civil Air Patrol in Portland. A WWII Air Force bombardier and aerial photographer, he later ran an airport and taught at Columbus and Moore Air Force bases. A native of Saco, son of Charles and Bertha Philbrick, he is a Thornton Academy alumnus, married to Elizabeth Campbell, with four children. the family plans to move to Town in June.
