Saco School Head Says Credit Hard To Come
Saco Superintendent Bernard C. Forbush told the School Committee creditors are reluctant to extend credit due to $34,297 past due bills from the school department. He noted $537,796 spent of $638,417, with $66,323 remaining after current bills. Mayor Doyle cited state subsidies over $100,000, a $400,000 tax anticipation loan due by Dec. 31, and a $208,000 New England Division loan as factors delaying payments. The council has advertised bids for an $800,000 tax anticipation loan to pay bills, while pending revaluation delays add financial strain. The committee offered teachers a $5,300 base salary on a five percent scale, down from the $5,500 requested. a meeting with the teachers’ salary committee will address the proposal, and budget discussions were tabled for further study.
