Kohoutek Comet Falls Short of Brightest Expectations
Navy astronomer Myron Miranian of the U.S. Naval Observatory says comet Kohoutek will be 40 times fainter than earlier predictions and may not be spectacular to the naked eye. The head may not appear larger than Jupiter, with a 15 degree tail visible around Jan. 5 to Jan. 15, while Ikeya-Seki and Bennett in past decades matched Kohoutek's promised brightness for naked eye and telescope views.

Gas Rationing Plan Aims Fair Fuel Distribution
The plan would give residual oil to space heating users and reduce indoor temperatures by six to ten degrees for some. Electric utilities would receive oil based on a Federal Energy Office equitable cutback computation. Industrial users would get as much residual oil as in 1973, while petrochemical plants could receive up to 20 percent more than 1972 levels. Propane and related gases would have priority customers receiving a portion of past purchases or full needs, with non-priority customers sharing remaining supplies.
