Sewage Could Feed Shellfish in New Waste System
Woods Hole researchers at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution study turning sewage into oyster meat by feeding algae to shellfish. If successful the system could produce over 900 tons of oyster meat annually for a town of 50 000, worth about 5 million dollars. The project, two years old, moves to a 575000 laboratory testing plant designed to handle sewage from 75 people.
