Six minutes after launch Gemini 5 reached orbit and the Houston Mission Control Center took over guidance. Command pilot Cooper fired jet thrusters to place the craft in orbit and planned a complex rendezvous with a satellite using radar, computer and thrusters to arrive within twenty feet on the fourth orbit.
