Balloon mission explains silver ball sighting over Massachusetts
An object seen over northeastern Massachusetts is a gamma ray and cosmic ray research balloon launched four days earlier by German and Italian scientists from Hanscom Air Force Base. The 21 million cubic foot, 130000 foot high radio controlled balloon is expected to be brought down over western Massachusetts by parachute this afternoon.
