Tax Cut Proposal Alters Rates Across Income Brackets
The plan would cut rates for taxpayers at both ends of the scale. Current rates range from 20 percent on the first $2,000 of taxable income to 91 percent on income over $200,000. The administration proposal would split the bottom $2,000 into four $500 brackets taxed at 14, 15, 16, and 17 percent. The top rate would cap at 70 percent for incomes over $100,000. Two-thirds of the savings for income groups would result from these changes.
