Biddeford Man Tops Maine Bar Exam Grading
Harold J. Carroll of Biddeford scored the highest mark among 59 applicants in the Maine State Bar Examinations at the University of Maine. The 25 year old Boston University Law School graduate was president of Moot Court and winner of the Homer Albers competition. He has accepted a commission in the Navy Judge Advocate General’s department.

Solar Observation OSO 6 Launch From Cape Kennedy
A $12 million solar observatory OSO 6 launched from Cape Kennedy at 3 52 a m EDT on a Delta rocket to study solar flares and sunspots. The satellite reached a near circular 350 mile high orbit with nine sensors and two telescopes aboard. The PAC passive attitude control experiment and other instruments were operating to test future earth and space observation platforms.

Manhole Dweller given Shelter and Jail Charge
Svetomir Kusmanovich, a Yugoslavian-born man, lived in a manhole near Toronto for three years. He was removed from the 64a by 5-foot opening and charged with vagrancy after a Salvation Army vehicle found him awaiting a hostel. He described extreme heat in summer and cold in winter, surviving on small meals and welfare aid, with his wife and two sons remaining in Yugoslavia.

France Devalues The Franc By 12 Percent In Surprise Move
Paris France devalued the franc by 12 percent saying the step was needed to prevent bankruptcy and deflation and to restore reserves. Finance Minister Valery Giscard d Estaing announced the action after a cabinet meeting with President Georges Pompidou. The franc’s new value is 17 cents to the dollar from 20 cents, changing the exchange rate and affecting tourists and French goods abroad.
