Four Inmates Foiled Escape Attempt at Walpole Prison
Walpole State Prison guards stopped a weekend escape by four inmates at the maximum security facility. Supt. Robert Donnelly said the men planned to exit through repair tunnels and ventilator shafts to a roof, but were halted minutes before. A subsequent search found 18 knives and escape material as guards continued a multi day screening. The inmates were Roger Brown James Barrett George Lincoln Jr and Edward Avery.
