Biddeford Awards Alfred Road Engineering Contract to DesRoberts

The Biddeford City Council approved a 6400 dollar contract with DesRoberts and Henry for engineering of the Alfred Road Commercial Industrial Park. The 43 acre site, now housing Snield's Meats and the York County Youth Center, requires road layout sewer and storm drains and power line work. Some counselors had argued for re bidding due to perceived gaps in topographical and soils analysis, but the council voted to proceed to avoid delaying access road plans and potential park development.

Judge Rules Campground Approved Over Kennebunk Board

Superior Court Justice Ed ward Stern ruled the Kennebunk appeals board acted capriciously when it denied a 230 site campground on 60 acres at Old Alfred Road West Kennebunk. He sided with developer Ronald D Robinson, saying sites are buildings not dwellings and the three acre rule does not apply. The decision allows the campground pending any further town contest and follows approvals from the planning board and state health department.

Stuntman Traverses WTC Rooftops In Daring Walk

A French stuntman Philippe Petit walked a tightrope between the World Trade Center towers about 90 feet apart in New York City this morning. He was halted by police and taken to a hospital mental ward for observation after the feat witnessed by crowds. Petit and two photographers had apparently planned the stunt for some time, arriving in the United States around Aug. 1.

County Receives Pollution Grants For York County Plan

Coastal York County gains a $400000 federal grant under Section 208 for long range water pollution control planning. The funds cover Biddeford Saco Old Orchard Beach Kennebunk Kennebunkport Sanford Wells York Kittery Eliot and South Berwick with York County named top regional priority for coordination of sewage collection and land use. The plan involves DEP and Southern Maine Regional Planning Commission and includes two quasi municipal sewer districts. Federal deadline for cleanup is fall 1976. Greater Portland also received 650000 and Aroostook River basin is likely to be approved this year.
