Ault resigns as Saco-Lowell president after turning around company

Thomas J. Ault announced his resignation as president and director of Saco-Lowell Shops effective July 1. He cited completing a two year program to reorganize and relocate the firm from losses to profits with new plants in North and South Carolina, a Clemson R D center, and a Greenville depot. He expressed pride in leaving Saco-Lowell in improved condition and planned a Biddeford-Saco area visit on May 10, with no immediate word on leadership change.

Crash Kills Pupil on South Street Biddeford

A youth, James N. Clark of Clark's Mills Dayton, was killed in an early afternoon crash on South street Biddeford. Three other occupants were injured and transported to Webber hospital. Clark, a Thornton Academy junior, died from a skull fracture and broken neck. The 1949 car owned by Ruth Clark Hollis Center was speeding and struck a tree after leaving the roadway.

Old Orchard Beach Board of Selectmen schedules a special town meeting for next Thursday at 7 30 p m in Old Orchard Beach High School to vote on 18 articles including 120000 for a sewer project 23000 for a new fire truck and 90000 for a vocational arts wing addition all financed from bonds notes or surplus funds with no tax rate increase anticipated per Selectman Arthur Loranger the sewer project aims to install an interceptor gravity and force main sewer line to serve Old Orchard Beach removing raw sewage from Saco Bay from Mullen Avenue to Atlantic Avenue

Biddeford To Greet Cardinal Cushing Arrival

St Mary St Joseph and St Andre parishes will ring bells at 3 p m Sunday to mark the arrival of His Eminence Richard Cardinal Cushing Archbishop of Boston in Biddeford and the start of the motorcade to St Francis College on Pool Road.
