Maine House Debates Cuts to ETV Funding and Budgets
The Maine House rejected multiple amendments to trims in the current budget, including 522000 for an educational television network. Rep Ernest Smith argued funds should be deferred for up to two years, citing distrust and potential job creation costs. Other motions sought eliminating 135000 for Aid to Dependent Children, 46000 for state plane operations, and 500000 from a 1.6 million Department of Economic Development allocation. Some members defended continuation, noting progress and upcoming airings of planned stations. The session also touched on a stalled Military and Naval Children's Home funding restoration attempt and other procedural actions.
