A South Berwick native, he holds a Doctor of Canon Law from Catholic University and has served as vice official of the Portland diocese since 1957, transferring from Sacred Heart Yarmouth where he was assistant since 1944. He was ordained in 1937 and earned a second canon law degree in Rome and at Catholic University. He has held multiple parish assignments and served as secretary of the Tribunal from 1950 to 1957.
