Two Children Rescued After Overnight Woods Search

Diane 10 and Scott 5 Brockelbank were found safe after a long all night search in woods off West Street Biddeford. About 300 locals aided by game wardens State Police and Coast Guard planes located them early morning. They were cold and hungry but unharmed and returned to Portland with their mother Mrs Shirley Brockelbank.

Nixon’s Tax Reform Plan Aims for Broad Relief and Fairness

President Nixon proposed an eightfold tax reform package including a 50 percent cut in the 10 percent surcharge within a year and repeal of the investment tax credit. He urged a temporary surtax extension to 1970 with possible elimination by mid-1970 and backed limits on tax preferences to ensure a fair share from all Americans. University of Connecticut promotes 26 to full professor

At Storrs Connecticut President Homer D Babbidge Jr of the University of Connecticut announces the promotion to full professor for 26 faculty members. Among them is Dr Everett Carll Ladd Jr of Saco Maine in the political science department who joined the college staff in 1964 after completing his doctoral work.

Dr. Ladd, author of two books and more than a dozen articles, has been named fall professor at Cornell University. He has directed the Political Data Center since 1968 and was born in Saco Maine on September 24 1937.

Janson Wins Saco Ward 5 Alderman Seat in Canvassed Vote

Democrat John G. Janson defeated Republican Donald St Onge 84 to 33 in a special Ward 5 aldermanic election. Janson was sworn in and named to the street committee. City council approved a Pepperell Square 13 minute parking rule 6 am to 6 pm and 15 minute limits elsewhere after 6 pm. permits for Howe's Taxi and a Coastal Motors gasoline storage tank were approved. A zoning change to allow a warehouse on North Street was not acted on. mayor said the issue will return next month.

US Hornet In Sea of Japan With 10 Warships

The carrier Hornet and ten American warships sailed the Tsushima Strait into the Sea of Japan to support reconnaissance flights off North Korea. Japan informed Washington it seeks restraint to avoid provoking North Korea while U.S. crews search for missing sailors from the April incident.

Park Building Bids Awarded in Old Orchard Beach

Bids for a Veteran's Memorial Park Building were opened in the Town Manager's Office. The brick siding structure, 18 by 8 feet, will sit on a cement base 30 inches below grade with jalousie windows. Joseph P Quellette of Biddeford won at 2035 dollars. other bids were 2100 and 3460. Electrical work awarded to Eastern Electrical Corp. of Portland. Completion expected by June 15.
