Police probe reports that Ronald Ganon Jr. a twelve year old was attacked by five or six youths on Jefferson Street on Sunday afternoon while en route to choir practice. He was stabbed treated and released from Webber hospital and the assailants remain unidentified. A similar assault on Roger Deshaies thirteen son of Biddeford city clerk occurred Friday on Summer Street leaving him with facial lacerations.
Chairman Frank Jones of the Saco Police and Fire Commission announced Lt. Robert Foran of the Saco Police Department was suspended last week for failing to report for duty without explanation. He has since reported to the chairman and the disposition will be considered at a commissioners meeting.
The Easter holiday weekend brought 17 deaths across New England with 12 on highways. Massachusetts reported five fatalities ahead of Vermont with four and New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Maine with two each. Former French Army sergeant Simone Oudot trains New England teachers in French via Parsons Francais. since joining Boston Modern Language Project last October she has visited 250 classes in 150 towns and led workshops in Brunswick Bucksport and Belfast. about 6 000 Maine third and fourth graders tune in twice weekly to the program and Oudot stresses correct pronunciation. She hopes more Maine teacher colleges offer foreign languages and notes Fort Kent State Teachers College is the sole provider now.
