Nixon Administration Sees Budget Surplus Near $6 Billion

Washington AP reports the Nixon administration now expects a fiscal 1970 surplus close to 6 billion dollars after deep cuts in welfare and defense. The surplus follows an agency by agency review of the Johnson budget, which had forecast a 3.5 billion surplus, and signals further revisions when Congress returns after Easter.

Doctor To Become Conductor In London Dream

London AP A middle aged doctor plans a debut as a symphonic conductor spending about 7200 pounds at 52. Dr Michael Bialoguski hires Roya Bert Hall New Philharmonic Orchestra and pianist Fou Ts'ong for a April 29 program including Beethoven Fourth Symphony and Chopin Second Piano Concerto. He fled Poland in WWII and reached Australia with forged papers claiming intelligence service links and a role in the 1954 Petrov defection. He trained as a physician in Australia and played violin with the Sydney Symphony before moving to England for medical practice in Epsom.

Arthritis Drive Chairmen Named for Biddeford and Saco

Mrs. Samuel Osher and Mrs. Alcide Deschambeault named general chairmen for Biddeford and Saco as The Arthritis Foundation launches its 1969 drive led by Dr. Robert S. Richie of Scarborough and Portland. The campaign opens May 4 with a Victory March house to house solicitation in both cities aimed at boosting local support and funding arthritis research.
