Saco Widow Witnessed Dog Destroyed After Court Order
In Saco Municipal Court Judge Hilary Mahaney ordered the destruction of Duke, a boxer owned by widow Alice Benson of 752 Lafayette Street, after the dog had bitten a child and was found running without a muzzle. Benson protested, saying the dog was too young to die, as county officials and local residents testified that the dog was seen off muzzle on multiple occasions. Officers named were John F Miller president Mrs Malcolm M Filson vice president Mrs Orrin B Saunders secretary and Mrs Richmond A Keyes treasurer They will start their duties at the May meeting Also named were nominating committee members including Mrs Colby N Ricker and Mrs Filson Mrs Paul Clogston Mrs John Galligan and Mrs Seymour Martin The group approved revising unit bylaws to be filed with the state PTA by May 1 and appointed a committee to complete and forward the revisions to headquarters Plans include mimeographed bylaw copies for future meetings The plaque committee was authorized to select a name for a school tribute and to pay engraving costs for a May presentation The membership report showed 108 paid up members The treasurer was Mrs Maurice Weare and the secretary's report was by Mrs Alber G LaPierre Henry Hampe presided The Ogunquit Village Grammar School class led by Mrs Eleanor Adams won the attendance banner with 21 percent attendance Refreshments were provided by Ogunquit Village parents The next meeting is May 7.
