Violence spreads after King's assassination across U.S.
Authorities say a net for the killer of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has spread hundreds of miles from Memphis as riots erupt nationwide. President Johnson orders federal troops to guard Washington while marches for King’s memory are planned. Rev. Abernathy succeeds King as SCLC president and Bunche hopes the murder spurs end to ghettos. In Vietnam, air cavalry push toward a northern HQ near Khe Sanh as peace talks inch forward.
