Saturn 5 launches with orbital satellite despite engine loss
CAPE KENNEDY Fla AP America’s Saturn 5 lifted a 132 ton satellite into orbit but two second stage engines failed, raising questions about readiness for crewed lunar missions this year. The plan called for a third stage restart after three hours to test lunar distance flight. If astronauts were aboard, the mission would have reached earth orbit but ended in an incorrect trajectory. The loss forced a longer third stage burn, consuming fuel.
