Reconstructed Building Shows English Cottage Style in Biddeford
An English cottage themed office and storefront at 56 Alfred St Biddeford designed by Paul E Sheltra replaces the former Sears Roebuck Co store. The brick structure features a shingled rear wall with a small fence and lamp post, a brick enclosed garden, green sidewalk, 1200 sq ft on the ground floor and equal basement area, air conditioning, hot water heat, tiled finished basement, and a separate janitor quarters. The project lists Roland Cadorette as general contractor and local firms as subs. A moment of silence honored Georgianna Thibedeau, and Volguur Club invited members to Apr 6 ceremonies with a banquet planned for Rumford May 6 meeting.

Barbs by Phil Pastoret
Cartoon caption humor by Phil Pastoret notes that past tense does not mean relaxation for Gwendolyn and observes fish lack vocal cords. A quip on fishermen and a wry jab about a refrigerator with a television channel appears as a tongue in cheek mini item.
Johnson Viet Nam peace row challenges credibility
President Johnson's Viet Nam peace offensive faces a credibility clash that could aid North Vietnam propaganda. The bombing restraint leaves 25 percent of North Vietnam's area and about 10 percent of its people exposed to attack as American planes fly near the northern boundary. A Saigon youth group exposing corruption sees top leaders jailed. South Vietnam's press grows more critical of America under government guidance. In Wisconsin, Sen. Eugene J. McCarthy defeats Johnson 56 percent. Nixon wins 80 percent. The AP finds deep Democratic disunity.
