Webber advances Biddeford 150-bed hospital project

The Webber Construction project for a new 150 bed hospital in Biddeford continues with workers welding reinforcement plates to steel piles while Hub Pile Drivers of Boston drives piles to bedrock. David DeTurk says completion is targeted for end of 1978 with an estimated project cost of $12 million.

Senators Muskie Hathaway oppose tariffs on shoes

Senators Muskie and Hathaway of Maine say they are disappointed by President Carter’s decision not to impose tariffs or quotas on foreign shoe imports. They will wait to see action from the White House before considering any override, noting ITC recommended limits to protect about 250,000 American shoe jobs. Carter directs Robert Strauss to negotiate market agreements with South Korea and Taiwan instead of tariffs.
