Malden Mass Catholic clergyman says a Catholic President would have no right to impose beliefs. Msgr Francis J Lally editor of The Pilot told Malden Ministers Assn that Catholics stand with Protestants in separation of church and state. He said a Catholic candidate would bring his own convictions but could not impose them.

Washington AP reports the first weather-eye satellite Tiros I entered a near perfect 450 mile orbit from Cape Canaveral. Scientists hailed the clear cloud photographs centered on the Gulf of St Lawrence showing broad U.S. Canada coverage and promising a global weather watch network. President Eisenhower called the results marvelous as Thor Able stages fired with precision.

Beach Woman Cultivates Year Round Botanical Hobby

Mrs. Ethel Kimball of 25 Evergreen Avenue Old Orchard Beach tends a year round plant collection. Her parlor maple may reach seven feet, Honey Hoya blooms clusters of white petals with orange centers, and a Christmas cactus has 12 blossoms and about 40 buds. She boards a friend’s plant in Florida and grows Crown of Thorns lobster cactus strawberry begonia spider plants African violets and geraniums. The 83 year old runs Idaho Cottage a summer guest house with help from her daughter Madalyn Strong.

Glendale AP reports a bizarre tale as Schultz, a bachelor, is chased from a Forest Lawn duck pond by Gus and Mrs. Gus swans. Two years later Maggie, a widow swan from Lake Malibu, is sought as a mate. Eight men trap Schultz and relocate him to Malibu to test compatibility.

Police Seek Salesman In Shooting At Fairfield

State Police search for a man who posed as a gun salesman entered the Colby Colles trailer home of Barbara Myron and shot her in the stomach after she resisted advances. Myron, 26, underwent surgery and was reported in good condition at the hospital. A .22 caliber revolver slug passed through her abdomen and exited the left side. The assailant, about 30 to 35, took a shell from a revolver and fired after showing a weapon to her husband George, who was at work. Myron was found by a relative two hours later with non life threatening injuries.
