Crash Program Needed To Wipe Out Illiteracy

Three million American citizens aged 25 or more can't read or write and about five million more read below sixth grade. A two pronged attack targets keeping children in school longer and helping adults learn to read and write. Literacy workshops like Baylor University's program show adults can learn with motivation and self discipline, aided by home or teacher led instruction. Television has aided literacy efforts and individuals can eventually write as well as read.
